Problem with connecting Nokia phone as Portable Device (WinXP SP2

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I’ve encountered a problem with connecting Nokia 6131 & Nokia 9500 as
Portable Device (XP SP2):
- after the connection between my wife’s PC (California Access 8800LR
notebook with Bluetooth from billionton on PCMCIA card, Toshiba stack) and my
Nokia6131 (via Bluetooth) is established for the first time, in the ‘Device
Manager’ I can see section ‘Portable Devices’ where my phone’s name is shown
as properly working device,
- then in ‘My Computer’ I can see my phone’s name as well and I can browse
folders in the phone without using Nokia Phone Browser,
- Windows Media Player (v11) finds my phone and I can synchronize music
files between PC & phone,
- PC Suite/Synchronize application can synchronize calendar without any
problems.

So after the connection is established for the first time (via Bluetooth)
everything works fine. But after rebooting my PC:
- PC Suite connects to the phone properly (via Bluetooth),
- PC Suite/Synchronize application can synchronize calendar without any
problems,
- I can browse folders in the phone by using Nokia Phone Browser,
- but in the ‘Device Manager’, in a section ‘Portable Devices’ I can see
that my phone doesn’t work properly (yellow exclamation mark) – the driver
did not run (code 10),
- in ‘My Computer’ I can not see my phone’s name,
- Windows Media Player (11) can not find my phone and I can not synchronize
my music files between PC and the phone.

After uninstalling my phone in the ‘Device Manager’ and reconnecting my
phone in PC Suite (deinstall device, remove connection in PC Suite and then
create connection again in PC Suite) everything works OK. But after first
reboot of the PC the problem comes back.

* WMP11-->WMP10 rollback (described here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/installation.mspx)
did not help. Result:
- after the connection between PC and my Nokia6131 (via Bluetooth) is
established for the first time, in the ‘Device Manager’ I can not see section
‘Portable Devices’ (the section disappeared).
- after the connection between PC and my Nokia6131 (via Bluetooth) is
established for the first time, in the ‘Device Manager’ I can not see section
‘Portable Devices’ (the section disappeared),
- PC Suite still works properly and communicate/synchronize with my phone,
- in ‘My Computer’ I can not see my phone’s name,
- WMP10 can not find my phone and I can not synchronize my music files
between PC and the phone.

* Nokia software reinstalation (uninstalation + instalation) did not help.

I had the same problem on my own PC (Dell Latitude D610 with Bluetooth built
in, Toshiba stack) but some how (I do not know how) the problem has been
solved! So the solution is possible.

And even more - the problem has been solved for a while on my wife’s PC. But
I’ve used bootvis (see
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/sysperf/fastboot/bootvis.mspx) to speed
up XP booting and the program have changed the sequence of starting programs
during booting XP. And now the problem came back. So my conclusion is that
changing the sequence of starting programs during XP booting can help.

My configuration is:
- WinXP SP2,
- PC Suite 6.82.22.0 (Polish),
- Windows Media Player 11,
- Connection method: Bluetooth stack from Toshiba (PCMCIA card from
billionton),
- Windows Portable Device Driver 6.82.26.2 provided by Nokia on 2006-11-03
(but in the driver details I can see that driver file
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\WudfRd.sys is described as provided by Microsoft
Corporation and has version 6.0.5730.0 (winmain.060915-1845) – strange...;
I’ve checked that the file is dated on 2006-09-15).

Any ideas how to permanently connect Nokia Phone as Portable Device in
WinXP? As I said:
- after software instalation for the first time and after connection made in
PC Suite for the first time WinXP recognizes phone as PortableDevice without
errors,
- but after reboot can not - the PortableDevice can not be run (Code 10).

Regards
.
