Re: Motherboard issues, continued

Just to clarify, the response was posted on the original thread but it was
not responded to. I hope in hindsight the circumstances behind this problem
have been recognised and the solution is appropriate to it.

I do not have the time to do this until about 15+ hours time - meanwhile I
would be grateful for any further or clearer instructions as to what to do.
As ever, I am extremely appreciative of any help received.

Andrew have you ever contributed any correct information?
If your going to move the CMOS jumper it is not necessary to unplug the
system and remove the
battery.
Also a repair install works just fine with a new board.

1st unplug power, remove the battery, locate the CMOS jumper pin on the
MB,
usually by the battery, move the pin from 1-2 position to 2-3 for .45
seconds or
so,then back to 1-2 position,replace battery,start pc.You'll need to
enter
the
BIOS on start up,set date/time,load optimal defaults, then set the BIOS
accordin-
gly,save & exit.Also,a new board requires a new xp installation,repair
wont
cut
it,set the BIOS to boot to xp cd (1st boot device),hd 2nd.Also,read the
owners
manual.....

I've hit further trouble.

I followed the instructions by removing all the non-essential items, of
which there were few anyway. I then removed the sound card from it's
PCI
slot. The repair function did not load, and restarted automatically.
When
asked to boot from the CD, the Windows setup also restarted itself.

The soundcard was then put back into the computer. The same happened -
it
continues to restart continuously by itself, without any intervention.

It seems the computer is in an irretrievable loop of restarting - does
anyone have any suggestions? I am very concerned at this latest
development.
