Hi Newby,
Well, we know one device that started the resource conflict, the PCI bus
1394a PCI host controller card you installed, just might be easier to move it
to another PCI slot, as Bob I suggested..
The explanation of the device manager error codes was the key link as
relates to error #12.. Did you try the troubleshooting Wiz or maybe you
didn't see the recommended resolution iink..? The key here is to disable the
conflicting device and we know one for sure.. Did you look in System Info
under Components, Problem devices, to see if anything was showing..? Start,
open the Run box, type in msinfo32 for quick access..
As for the utility & it's info link, it's better suited for startup programs
that load themselves, sometimes causing problems that can steal system
resources and slow Windows at startup.. Sorry, It didn't really apply to
hardware resources, later down the road for you maybe it will come in handy..
These three links are diagnostic apps that can help ID hardware and a lot
more.. Knowing this info can help others to help you.. Your call..

I read most of the material you provided as links. Given my level of.
understanding I am hesistant to load the utiltiities.
The issue that I would really like cleared up is knowing what resources are
at capacity. I believe it could be memory, IRQ # or DMA conflicts. None of
the error messages tell me which it is. I do not typically see any memory
usage that approaches the 1G level that is installaed. I do not know what
IRQ# the card is attempting to use, but I reviewed all of the currently used
#'s and there appears to be some left to be allocated.
I have tried disabling most of the periphera devices and rebooting with no
improvement.
Can I stop the IDE controller if all of my hardrives are SATA? Is this
likely to be one fo the resources that is causing my error?
Were you suggesting that the utlity software, if installed, would provide
that insight.
Thanks for initial response.

How do I know how much I have available and what each device is using?
How do I know which devices can be stopped?
I have an Intel 915GAV board with PCI express and an ATI X600Pro video card.
The rest of the devices are hard drives, dvd rom and burner, lots of USB
ports and memory card readers, scanner, and wireless keyboard and mouse, LAN.
