Re: Problem with DVD - Can't read files on burnt DVD

Now I have the problem "kind of" solved! First at all, I uninstalled Alcohol
120% and decided to play around with Nero. After several ruined DVD's I could
come up with some parameters that worked well.

On Nero, I uninstalled InCD. Then I burnt the DVD as DVD-UDF, because it
wouldn't let me burn a large file (>2Gb) in an ISO DVD. I burnt the DVD and
no luck. So I went back and burnt a DVD-UDF with version 2.01... This is not
the default option but it works! So the problem was actually not using UDF,
but the version. Now I can burn DVDs and read them with no problem.

One problem remains, though. I can't burn DVD+RW... My drive is supposed to
burn them, but I get "invalid disk" errors. If anyone knows what it means
would be great to know.

Thanks!

UDF, DLA, or other packet-writing formats are not standard, varing from PC
to PC. If you write a DVD in a standard format, for example Joliet, all PCs
should be able to read it.

If you insist on writing in UDF format, which permits treating the DVD like
a magnetic disk (i.e., is extendable/re-writable, if DVD+_RW media used),
then you also need a companion UDF reader.

The reader is unlikely to come directly from either Sony or Microsoft. It
usually comes form the maker of the DVD writing software, someone like
Roxio, Ahead, Sonic, etc. However, Sony may have "bundled" some version of
some elses writing software with the hardware. In that case, Sony may offer
a patch/upgrade. Or, they may have a link referring you to the software
vendor. But, be aware that OEM versions are sometimes not the same as
retail versions, so read carefully the applicability of any patch/upgrade,
before installing it.

I have a Sony VAIO, with a Sony DVD RW DW-D22A. The drive reads perfectly
commercial DVDs and CD, and I can create CDs and read them. But when I
burn a
DVD, even if it completes successfully, I cannot read it. The computer
hangs
trying to read it, and when it gets back the explorer shows and empty DVD.

I've read article 899527 and 818733 in Microsoft support centre, which
describes my problem, and it seems to be tracked to the UDF driver.
Anyway,
Microsoft says I should contact Sony, but that there is a hotfix for it
with
them.

After a couple of days browsing the internet I know a lot of people have
had
this problem, but I couldn't find a definite answer on how to fix it.

My version of the UDFS.SYS file is 5.1.2600.2180, dated 8/4/2004. It seems
to be a more current version, but I can't find it. In any case, the
problem
could be different.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
