If your system has a "Serial ATA" (SATA) hard drive, then depending the the
driver for drive interface, it may also provide "hot swap" features. Hot swap
means you can disconnect it while the XP/PC is still powered on.

Hi All,
After numerous attempts to remove the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the
system tray, I finally decided to post the query here as to, "how do I get
this to go away?". I have no hardware to remove, as it worked when I
uninstalled my previous scanner and printer from the system. I installed a
newer printer/scanner/copier combo to my PC, and now this icon won't go away
unless I tell it to stop, which comes back after I turn on the PC again.
To add, I have uninstalled "all" connecting hardware that I have now, then
reinstalled them, as an attempt to get the system to see otherwise; this was
to no avail. Is there anything there can be done to get the system to think
all the hardware has been removed and that it is no longer needed?
