Re: Buzzing from m/b?

Could also be an internal cable which a fan is rubbing against.

Maybe coincidence but the buzzing started just after enabling Wake On Lan

On restart fairly loud continuous buzzing noise from m/b. Removing cards
etc. have narrowed it down to m/b itself.

It's a warning buzzer. You have some hardware failure. Probably the
reason you have lockups....

I strongly suspect the chipset
fan has failed, it's hard to see if it's spinning or not.

PC will start but the noise is unbearable. PC had been suffering
intermittent program lockups this last week or so. CPU and m/b temps. seem
normal.

What ARE the CPU/MB temps?

It's a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939.

Would I be correct in my diagnosis?

It's logical. Correct is only proven once problem is fixed, or at least
verified.

Any way of telling for sure?

Yep, crack open the case and look (flashlight is often helpful). Is
there some reason
you can't see the chipset fan? Like dust? Are all the other fans
running?

Since you got the case open, you may as well blow out the dust. CHeck
all of the capacitors for bulges or leaks (even teensy ones).

Can the chipset fan be replaced?

Yes. Usually.

Can't find receipt so don't know if it's covered by warranty, I suspect not.
