Sir/Ma'am,
My PC is going hay wire. Respectfully request some advisement on
getting my
PC back online. I'm in the military stationed overseas trying to fix
it
myself. I don't want to get ripped off for lack of knowledge. My PC
was
freezing up. A dude I worked with changed up the fan and assumed that
was
the problem; he charged me $70 in the process. It worked for a minute
then a
PC alarm just went off and woudn't stop unless I shut it down.
Request to
know what will cause the PC alarm to sound off or the PC to freeze?
The
system won't even reboot without the alarm coming on. How can I fix
the
problem? Please advise. Any assistance you may provide will be
greatly appreciated.
You are definitely having hardware issues and yes, it does sound like
overheating although there could be other reasons such as failed RAM,
failed processor, etc. There is usually more than one fan in a computer
and since you didn't say which fan "the dude" changed out, it's
impossible for me to say exactly what's happening with your machine
without looking at it. One way you might be able to determine the cause
is by making note of the beeps you get. Those beeps are audible codes
and each BIOS has a different code. So you can look up the codes for
your BIOS in your motherboard manual or by checking online.

Here are some general hardware troubleshooting steps:

If you can't do the troubleshooting yourself, find another dude who is
more competent. Since you are stationed overseas, it will not be as
easy to find someone by looking in the U.S. Yellow Pages. Ask friends
and colleagues for recommendations.
