I'd say your problem is hardware, more than software.

| Thanks, Robert. I appreciate the time you took to make
the connection
| between the two mobos.
|
| I downloaded and installed all the drivers. Then I
attached my USB2
| external drive. The message popped up that it "would
perform faster if it
| were attached to a hi-speed port. Click here for a list
of ports." I
| clicked and it showed the 8 port USB hub but said "there
are no hi-speed
| ports" on this machine.
|
| According to one MS KB article the enhanced USB driver is
usbechi.sys
| located in the Windows/system32/drivers directory. I have
that file in that
| directory. Somehow only the generic driver, usbhub.sys,
gets installed. I
| tried uninstalling the driver for the USB controller and
updating the driver,
| but Windows only seems to allow *.inf files to be selected
to do that. I
| can't attach the usbechi.sys file myself to be the driver,
or at least my
| knowledge fails me at that point.
|
| I guess that means it's a Windows thing, but the KB
articles I've managed to
| find all say that simply installing SP1 or SP2 will solve
the problem. And
| as I've noted, I have SP2 installed and Windows update
says everything is
| just peachy on my system.
|
| I guess the only way forward now is to pay for MS support
and hope they know
| what they're talking about.
|
| Thanks for your effort!
