I'll reformat it in various way and'll see what happens.Hi, I have one of those cases for a hard drive or cd/dvd for an external connection, made by ADS Tech. It attaches thru a USB port. Now it worked while back, i.e there is no drivers needed for an XP machine and the system recognized it ok and it would show up under My Comp.
Now i put in a 160gb Maxtor drive and although it will show up under My Comp/Properties/Hardware , i can not access it as far as see it and write to it.
It is formatted etc.as i had it inside the pc b4, but now i want to use it to back up my laptops etc.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers, Robert
Few things here. The USB external case may be limited in capacity to 132GB. So, may not be able to decipher the partition already on the hard drive.
If the hard drive was present in another PC, its partition created and formatted there, may be a problem. You may have to remove the partition with disk management, create another and format it.
A hard drive in an external case should always jumpered as master. Check this first.
Thanks to all on your input.
Rob
