Try (temporarily) unplugging the adsl modem and using that port to
connect the other device to *without* the extension cable.
If they work properly there then try them, again *without* the
extension cable, on the other ports on the back of the computer.
If the devices work properly without the extension cable then try them
again on that same port but this time with the extension cable.
The objective of these tests is to try to isolate the source of the
problem as much as possible. It could be:
- a hardware problem with the ports themselves.
- a problem with the extension cable
- Problems with the USB devices.
With the results of the above tests you should now be able to refine
the list of potential culprits at least to some extent.
Post the results back here if you need further assistance.
