Turns out we cannot use the Z: drive on this mobo. Any other letter works.

We've been using Ghost 7.5 for a long time, it works great for what we
do...which is make simple bootable CDs that install a fresh copy of Win XP
(and other OS's) for end-users.
Today we're having our first compatibility problem, with the ASUS
P5S800-VM. The CD boots, but Ghost cannot access the virtual Z: drive
where the image resides. ASUS online tech support is of no value so far,
and Norton no longer supports 7.5.
Any ideas?
