Hi guys,

I am also having the same problem I got a 4167b black dvd burner and
updated it from dl12 to dl13 firmware. Exactly the same problem. At
first, I thought it was just the burner which i took back to the shop
and get it checked. They send an email advising me to pick up the dvd
burner the next day. When I arrived, they asked for $35 when they
tested the drive and can also burn dvds. I complained to the manager,
and got a new lg 4167b black dvd burner.

I formated my pc and updated the firmware to dl13. I also installed
nero express that came with the burner. I can burn cds and read dvds,
but can't burn dvds of any type at all.

The brands of DVDs i am using are:

imation 16x dvd-r
tdk 16x dvd-r
verbatim dvd-r 8x
verbatim dvd+r 8x
sony dvd-r 16x
laser dvd-r 8x
laser dvd+r 8x

The list can go on and on and i bet none of the dvd-r will burn.

I need a quick fix solution to it if anyone out there can help us.

I am wondering if it's the ata cables plugged into dvd burner, when
just before my windows boots up, it recognise both my hdd and lg burner
as primary and secondary master respectively, but ata just 33. Does
that matter??? I thought my system should run on at least ata 66,
since my motherboard can support up to 33/66/100. I know my hdd runs
on ata66, but shouldn't my burner be running at 66 or 100???

Would it also be my 350 watt psu on a athlon 1.4ghz system with 512mb
ram?

Someone please help us!!!!!!

It's got Excellent ratings from pc user and I would really appreciate
it if I am able to use this burner.

Thanks,
ezskol.

Hello MonikaW

You say you lost the original driver. Why do you say that? Have you managed
to burn a single DVD?

I'm posting not with a solution for your problem but because I'm also
struggling to get my LG dvd-ram drive working.
It's an LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA 4167B and the trouble I'm experiencing is
just about the same.

I first installed it (plug and play, no driver or software came with it) and
it all seemed to work fine (as i didn't try to burn a dvd).
- in device manager it appears like HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA 4167B.
- it reads original DVD's and any kind of CD's and it even burns CD's.
- in windows explorer it appeas as DVD-RAM device.

Now I tried to burn a DVD and it simply won't work.
As soon as I insert a blank DVD+R (I'm using TDK single layer ones) windows
change the device name for CD-ROM and the drive becomes inaccessible. (I
think it's something similar happening to you)

I've been wondering around LG site and I've updated the firmware from DL11
to DL13. Didn't work.
Can't find any windows driver and, in other forums I've been in, I
discovered that there is none because it's supposed to use generic ones that
come with windows. LG does not provide a driver (except firmware) for this
drive (and yours I believe).
I've got Windows XP Home Edition and Service Pack 2 and made all the updates
till today. Still doesn't work.

Ah, the software I'm using is Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 Basic because it's
the one which came with the computer. It's able to record DVD's as it has
that option but when I press "burn" it replies an error saying "there is no
DVD Recorder installed".
I think there is also the possibility of drag and drop in windows explorer
(I'm not sure if supplementar software is needed) but that way the message is
that "D: is not accessible".

I've read (in some forum) that it might have something to do with the PSU
unit having less than 300W but I find that a lame explanation 'cause it would
either work or not I think.
But the damn thing work's for everything except for what I boght it for,
burn my backups.

I'd appreciate any help somebody could give to me before I go crazy with
this. I just wan't the thing to burn some backup copies of my documents.

Good luck to us (as I think that if you solve your problem I'll also solve
mine and vice-versa)

I'm also creating a new post with this info.
title: LG HT-DL-ST GSA-4167B

Best regards
