Your observations are correct. but the only device
showing up to be removed is the Seagate hardrive, which
cannot be removed.
I built a system a few months ago, and Nforce4 based system such as
yourself, and had the same problem. My sata hard drives , would show up in
the safely remove hardware icon in the notification tray - an annoyance.
I ran into some stability issues with my newly built system, and was able to
resove it, by getting rid of the Nvidia IDE sw drivers.
When you install the Nforce4 motherboard drivers, you are given the option ,
toward the end of the install, of installing the Nvidia IDE sw drivers or
not. When I first installed, I chose to install those drivers. To get rid of
the ide sw drivers, I had to uninstall the Nforce4 mb drivers, reboot, then
reinstall, except - electing NOT to install the IDE SW drivers toward the
end of the install. By doing this, it just used the standard Microsoft IDE
drivers.
The end result of my getting rid of the Nvidia IDE SW drivers, was more
stability, and it also got rid of that " safely remove hardware" icon .
Now, your mileage may vary, but if your hard drive is sata, I would just
about be willing to bet, you elected to install the Nvidia IDE SW drivers,
and getting rid of them, would probably get rid of that safely remove
hardware icon as well...
