First thing I'd do is try a +R DL disk and see if that works. You should be
able to find a pack of three to try out.

Is the Matshita UJ-840D drive compatible with DVD-R DL disks? I am
attempting to burn with them, and it appears that the drive does not
recognize the disk. I don't know if I need to buy DVD+R DL disks, or if
the driver/firmware needs to be updated.
