Re: Windows will not find my graphics card

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Larry,

Yeah your mail did sound harsh even if you didnt mean to.

1. Searching on Dell site with service tag doesnt help. If you have never
faced this problem in past, you either got lucky each time or you dont have
enuff experice with Dells.

2. I didnt understant the stuff about disabling the splash screen.

4. I am a Unix/C++ programer new to Windows world and was stuck up with this
issue.
Anyways as said earlier the service tag didnt return me any drivers on Dell
site and Belarc didnt show any info either.
I tried downloading AIDA32 and it didnt show anything clearly but running
the option QUICK REPORT on display did show some DEBUG - VIDEO BIOS info
which told me that it is a RADEON X600 SE card. I managed to download the
drivers from ATI site and to my surprise Windows XP drivers worked well for
my Windows 2003.

I must thank you for the help.

Tip #1: Look up the machines by service tag number on the Dell site.
Tip #2:Look at the screen--if you disable or bypass the splash screen, the
video chipset is displayed before the POST screen.
Tip #3: Never agree to do service on a machine where you do not have full
access.
Tip #4: I don't mean this to sound harsh, but stop working on other
people's machines until you acquire a basic skill level and a working
toolset. Any entry level tech would have known to look to the service tag
or load up Belarc, Everest, or AIDA to determine the chipset.

Hi,

On a similar note, my Windows doesnt detect the video card that is
installed inside.
As a result it has installed a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". Can
someone please tell me a way to figure out the make/manufacturer of the
card so that I can download the driver for this card from internet and
install them?

A similar problem happens on another Windows 2003 server machine that I
have.

I donot have a list of all the components that these machines are made
up of hence I can't simply look that list and figure the card name.

Also since these are not my own machines, I am not permitted to open
them up. BTW, if it might help the machines are DELL machines.

Thanks,

Sug
