Re: video problem: partial screen only at 1024x768

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Diane,

If you change the display resolution by using the ATI display adjustment
features, does the TE786 display response to the change?

Or, right click on desktop, click properties, in the Display Properties
windows, click the Settings tab and then change the Screen resolution by
sliding the tab from Less to More. Does the display resolution changed with
the slider?

Peter, thanks for the response.

There's several machines that show the same symptoms:
Win2K: All-in-Wonder Radeon (before they started numbering them), ATI
Driver
Win2K: Radeon VE , ATI driver
I'm using older ATI drivers because they "matched" the ATI Multimedia Center
that I use with the AIW boards. The newer MMC releases do not support my
AIW; I don't know if the newer ATI drivers would be compatible. I may try a
newer ATI driver with the Radeon VE.

FWIW: The following also shows the same problem, so I think it's more likely
a monitor driver problem...
XP: Compaq on board SiS 651_661FX....
I'm trying to remember, but I think the video cards in use where the monitor
worked natively in 1024x768 mode were older.

The TE786 is recognized as a PnP and uses the generic MS PnP monitor driver.
However, Compaq 7550 is also recognized as a PnP and, like I tried to say
before, if I unplug the 7550 (without turning off the computer) and replug
to the TE786, all is well. Oh, for the days when the inf was text & could
be easily edited...

Diane,

Can you tell us the model of the ATI display adapter as well as the
present
drivers version?
If you can provide more info on the configuration of your PC, it will be
more easy for us to find out the solution.
Also, you said the TE786 works fine with other machines other than the one
using ATI chipset so I think the main problem rest on the ATI drivers.
Note: don't use the display drivers from windows update site as it is only
generic with limited features. Always use the drivers from ATI website.

I would *love* to update the driver if I could find one. All I can find
on
the web for this monitor is only for Win95. I've tried both MS and ATI
drivers
for the video card with no luck. I suspect there's a change needed in an
inf...

Your CRT monitor support upto 1600X1200, I would suggest you to update
the
display card drivers of your PC and than reset the display resoultion
to
suit
with the monitor.

Go to device manager and check for the display drivers of your display
adapter, if the drivers version is too old and not XP compatible, go to
ATI
website to dwonload the latest drivers for your display card. Stricltly
follow the ATI recommended instructions for how to remove and reinstall
the
display drivers.

Hope it helps

Have several boxes with various video cards using ATI Radeon chipsets.
Works fine at 1024x768 for several monitors, but not with the Relisys
TE786.
That monitor shows only part of the screen using 800x600. Moving the
mouse
moves the "view window" to see the rest of the screen. Some sort of
"virtual display mode"? Anyhow, the TE786 works fine in 1024x768 on
other
boxes not using the Radeon chipset. If I start up a box using a
Compaq
7550
monitor and then replug to the TE786, all looks fine... Can only find
Win95
drivers for these monitors; need Win2K & XP.
