Could also be that he knocked the cmos clear jumper off in the process of
moving the motherboard.

Despite your feeling that the battery is good, an inability to hold CMOS
settings usually means the motherboard battery needs to be replaced.
Since a motherboard battery costs under $5 usd, this is a cheap and
easy troubleshooting step.
