I use Nero and have found that their InfoTool helps to id drives, firmware,
aspi, etc..

[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - edwMmcWrite10 returned the following
error: SCSI Sense - Key:5 (Illegal Request) ASC:30 ASCQ:05
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - Failed to write track 01
Then i downloaded Force ASPI from

That downgraded my ASPI to 4.6(1021)
Then with That sony diagnostic test I got SAME RESULT
I was trying to Burn CDs with recordnow! & window media player
Now i uninstalled Recordnow
Still failure with window media player
Think i Answer all ur Ques....sorry if i missed something

2)ASPI detection tool.....guess wat my ASPI was missing.....reinstalled it
now i was able to c again blank cds
