Thanks Jaymon
In my notes, the two KB's that I looked at were:
316529, the registy key info was present, as I pasted in the post. So this
would have been too easy.... :)
315350, I do not have anything installed in regards to Roxio, although I
think technically, the Windows XP Wizard uses a Roxio engine to burn...
---
As per the links, I had already looked at the one article, I remembered the
guy's picture, and that is the issue exactly, the "Recording Tab" is missing,
otherwise it would be all good.
---
I did find one forum where a guy described how he unchecked the "Enable CD
Burning" checkbox on the drive properties, it then removed the Recording Tab,
and he was never able to get it back again. He too tried the regedit, a few
other links, and even reinstalled the HighMat CD Burning wizard.
I tried these steps as well...with nothing doing.
Thanks

My post in is regards to the "Recording Tab" missing for the properties of my
drive.
1) The drive is a CD-R/RW-DVD-ROM Drive factory installed in a Sony VAIO,
VGN-A270B notebook. (Previously it worked just fine.)
2) If I attempt to send files to the CD Drive, I get an error message,
"ERROR", "E:\ is not accessible" "Incorrect Function"
3) I read the KB to make sure the drive type is correct in the Registy, it
looks as follows: (And appears to be fine.)
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD
Burning\Drives\Volume{a95887c1-70a4-11d9-877d-806d6172696f}]
"Drive Type"=dword:00000001
"CurrentCDWriteSpeed"=dword:ffffffff
"MaxCDWriteSpeed"=dword:00000018
4) I do not have any other burning software installed.
5) Looked at the KB that talked about making sure the IMAPI CD Burning
service was running, it was not, I set it to Auto, and started the service,
but nothing changed. Rebooted and the service started and then stopped, the
event log did not record an error.
"The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service was successfully sent a start
control."
"The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service entered the running state."
"The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service service entered the stopped state."
All within a second.
6) My co-worker and I have the exact same laptops, I compared his registry
setting to mine, exactly the same, I compared the service, his is set the
same as mine was, so I changed it back to Manual and not running on boot.
---
How do I fix this issue to make my burner start working again.
Is there a way to re-install the windows xp burning software?
I can't say how long it has not been working, a few weeks...
What files are required for the wizard to work...
Where are the Recording Tab settings stored in the regisry or files?
Thanks
J
