Re: ATI Radeon 9000 Pro won't get reinstalled

Hey thank you but I've already solutioned the problem!!! (YES, BABY!)

The reason why the screen remained BLACK was that I had to choose to log on
as either as myself or my sister. (who also has a password, hence the admin
password...GRRR!)

So I blindedly click on my account, which has NO password and when windows
restarted, I've heard the "new device dectected"sound and VOILA! It has
reinstalled my drivers!

Now I am not blind anymore, !!!

Thanks anyway for your time and help, friend!

I wanted to install the newest drivers but I was told on the ATI website
that
I should UNINSTALL the older drivers first with the UNINSTALLER, which
I've
downloaded.

So after uninstalling the drivers I was prompted to reboot, but I chose
NOT
to reboot but to install the newset drivers immediatly (because I KNEW
i'll
have to reboot after installing the new drivers, and I just wanted to
reboot
ONCE, not twice).

So anyway, I was busy installing the NEWEST drivers for the card when
during
the instalation it said "can't install; use vgh mode instead. (What's
that???).

So i exited the setup and decided to reboot now.

But after rebooting (and seeing the windows XP logo at reboot) the screen
goes BLACK and remains BLACK!!!! AAARGH!!! (what have I done!?)

I find it weird, because Nvidia cards still work even after being
uninstalled! (With nVidia I don't get a BLACK SCREEN!)

I tried reboot in SAFE mode; latest configuration that WORKS, etc. NO
solution helps. And I've also tried to repair the system with "restore
console" but it says to type the administrators password...and guess
what!? I
(ME) AM the administartor and I have NO password! (???)n (maybe Dell's
password???)

I bet this is a tough cookie to CRACK!

For ATI cards, and if an ATI specific menu of display etc. is also
installed, I do it a bit differently. Uninstall the ATI menu display item
in add/remove programs first, then the ATI driver in same add/remove
programs. REBOOT. Many people install the aformentioned ATI display menu
in a normal install without knowing that its not needed. Custom install
allows in as little as just the driver.

After the reboot, XP should run a standard PCI card display. Then, install
the older ATI driver, REBOOT.

If you're running XP HOME, there is no administative password per se for the
default administrator. Just hit return/enter key.
