Re: why sp2 install CD hangs on hw detect? (drivers on floppy)

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Yes, I never got that far.

the problem is that I don't have a floppy drive (although I could
easily add one).. (Or I could do a slipstream CD
http://www.imaginaryplanet.net/weblogs/idiotprogrammer/?p=83398858 ).

My concern is that i never got to the point where it asks you need to
install scsci/raid.

I'm pretty sure the issue is SATA drivers (my motherboard didn't have
built in support for it), but I just thought it strange that Windows
would just freeze instead of prompting me.

I haven't switched to the promise SATA controller yet, and I'll try a
few things on the motherboard, but I just want to hear what standard
behavior of the install CD is.

So to rephrase my question to make it Windows centric: Normal XP
Install behavior is to start hw detection, then offer the user a prompt
to add drivers via floppy? So if Windows is not doing this, then the
problem must be with the MOBO/bios/jumper settings?
