Usb controller giving errors. Devices just say can't communicate with pc. I have two usb ports on front of pc, they work fine, but I think they're usb1. Problem started yesterday when I installed new usb2 pci card. Nothing will run from it.

All device drivers are up to date. Never had that message, no. I'm in UK, London.

Sure your MB supports USB 2.0?

What device is giving errors?
Are talking about the USB controller or the printer/joystick etc.??

Device manager says you have VIA usb 2.0, that is more than likely the controller on MB!!! So you have USB 2.0. How many usb ports do you have?

Do you ever get message saying "saying you plugged in usb 2.0 device but will operate at reduced speed because you only have usb 1.0?
I don't think so?

when did this whole problem arise? jad you made any changes tocomputer?
You are from UK?

Are you installing device drivers for printer/joystick?

I assume it's usb1 because the pc's about three years old. Not alot of usb2 around then. And also because data passage such as photos and music to mp3 player is pretty slow. I think the enhanced controllers were installed from the new card's driver disk.
Still got original two usb 1 ports on the front. The card I installed is a four point, into a spare pci slot. I've removed the card and deleted, reinstalled and still get an unrecognised device warning. I reckon I'll have to buy a different card, maybe Belkin or something that uses Via drivers not Ali.

"Dixonian69" wrote:

remove the card from PC?
delete Ali PCI controller from device manager.

See if you get back usb functionality.

Chipset is one of the little black boxes on PCI card. look around. It might say ALI.

doesn't make sense you had usb 1.0. cause you mentioned that you have 2 usb enhanced controllers.
so why do you think it was only usb 1.0?

I tried Advent website. found some info but not whether usb was 1.0 or 2.0!

"philwil" wrote:

Card still in pc, yes.
Chipset. I don't know. Where will it tell me?
Ali PCI is the driver, I think.
Yes, deleted controller, but card is still in pc.
Prior to installing I had usb1. It worked fine.
No error indications in Device manager.
Advent tech support is just about impossible to locate these days. Never respond.

"Dixonian69" wrote:

Is the Index USB 2.0 PCI card still in the computer?
What chipset is on PCI card?
Ali PCI is the Index PCI card?
You said deleted ALI controller ( obviously from Device Manager)?
Did you physically remove from computer?

Did your USB ports work prior to installing PCI card?

There are no devices in Device manger with error indications?

Have you checked with Advent tech support?

"philwil" wrote:

It doesn't matter which one I use, I get an error result. On the one hand my pc says the device is working fine, but when I try to use it I'm told the printer/joystick/whatever can't communicate with the device.

I've now deleted the Ali controller, but the VIA one still won't work.

Going slightly crazy here.

"Dixonian69" wrote:

looks like you have 2 USB controllers, one possibly already on your MB.
So Windows recognized it!!
What device is giving error?
Look at Device Manager?? red or yell mark possibly under unknown device.
Have you installed anything else?

"philwil" wrote:

yes, there are two. one is 'ALi PCI to usb enhanced host controller
the other is VIA usb2.0 Enhanced Host Controller

"Yves Leclerc" wrote:

Then, is then a USB "enhanced" controller card listed out in the USB section of Device Manager?

Unless you have SP2 installed, USB 2.0 is not an option regardless of what you try.. do you have SP2 installed?..

I just installed a USB 2 pci card. All went well, but I'm told my pc doesn't
recognise the device. I've tried downloading drivers, and have all latest Win
updates (on auto), but I can't get it to function.
Card is a Intex.
Pc is Advent 3213, Athlon XP 2400, Win XP home, 1gig RAM etc.
Any suggestions?
