For plug and play to work - a few things have to happen. You took care of
the first part - enabling the plug and play service. Next the device has to
communicate info to Windows about itself. Once those two things happen,
it's time for the drivers to install. Hardware vendors supply drivers -
even the drivers that ship with Windows. If Windows has a driver for the
device, it's installed. All done. If Windows does not have the driver, then
you have to supply it (from the disk that came with the device or download
drivers from the manufacturers website).

It sounds like your device is not a plug and play device. It is not
communicating its identity to Windows properly. Apparently Windows is
picking up some info but unfortunately it seems to think the device is a
printer.

So now you need to backtrack a bit. If the device came with directions,
read the installation steps. If it came with a driver disk, check the
driver disk for more installation tips. If no directions or disk, check the
manufacturer's website for downloadable drivers and directions. Follow the
manufacturer's directions for installing device and drivers. Sometimes it
does not matter but there are some cases where you are required not to
attach the device until after drivers are installed.
