A simple gameport to USB adapter won't work if the device was not designed
to work with it.
There are more complex converters that can convert gameport signals into USB
signals. Examples of such include these http://www.usb-port.com/rm203.html.
YMMV with these devices.
A better bet would be to get a gamepad that uses USB natively.
