The problem is that network drives were not assigned letters in accordance with the standard Windows uses. Specifically, Network drives Z->A, Local drives A->Z. If you don't manually assign the "local drive" letters to the network drive, the "problem" doesn't occur till you run out of drive letters. So the work around is not assign the local drive letters to network drive, or let "auto" handle both network and local drive assignments.
