Ok... Just to clarify:-
I have a HP F1711N laptop, second hand, that came with ME preloaded.
I have no cd rom drive for it, I have no disks for it.
It has NO internal Modem, the only one I have is USB!
When running ME I used a USB CDROM and UPGRADED XP Pro from there.(no
format required)
XP pro is running fine with the only exception of not seeing the USB
port, not even saying that its there but not working correctly.
The only evidence that it has one, (apart from the socket on the back),
is that in system information, "components" it lists an Intel(r)
82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal controller.
So in a nut shell, the only way I can update anything is with a 1.44m
floppy.
Someone please astound me with a solution other than "dont be a
cheapskate and buy youself a new laptop"
