New Mobo and CPU but XP won't reinstall
Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance
Have just upgraded to a MSI K8N Diamond Mobo, Athlon 64 3000+ CPU and
Leadtek 6800GT PCI-e video card. As expected Windows XP didn't like
that very much and refused to boot.
However, when I try to reinstall windows by booting the CD I seem to
have a problem. I get the message "detecting your hardware" at which
point the screen goes black and nothing seems to be happening (no drive
activity). The computer hasn't hung because I can reboot with
ctrl-alt-del. But I'm sure there should be some sort of text/progress
bar on screen during the hardware detect and from previous experience
I'm sure there should be plenty of disk activity at this point.
Am I wrong/being paranoid? or should I just leave it for however long
it takes to detect something. I'm worried that leaving like this will
do some sort of damage to the components (see, told you I was
paranoid!).
Any advice would be gratefully received.
