autoupdate.
If it is not available for auto-update, select the correct drivers from the
list.
If you still keep the original SB box, you can easily find the right drivers.

Proper procedures for updating BIOS and drivers:

CARE: Backup all your important data files before performing any
BIOS/chipset drivers update.

1. Go to the appropriate websites to download the BIOS/drivers and save them
to the
various specific folders. If your hardisk had partitioned, save them to
the drive other than the C drive.
Unzip them if required. Strictly following the instructions from Tyan
website for how to flash the BIOS.

2. Before flashing the BIOS, disconnect any unnecessary external devices,
e.g. printer, scanner, USB flash drive etc.
Make sure all the internal devices/power cables are properly and firmly
seated/connected.
Change the mobo battery if it is over 3 years (possible battery type
CR2032)
Make sure your home electric power supply is stable and should not
operate any machines
or electric equipments that consume large amount of electricity during
the flash BIOS status.
You should use the Award Flash Utility Flashv73 as your BIOS version is
older than 1.1

3. Read and print the instructions from Tyan.com for how to backup and flash
BIOS using the Flash Utility.
Always backup your exisiting BIOS before flashing the new BIOS.
After the new BIOS is flashed successfully, clear the CMOS and then load
the default BIOS setup and then
adjust the BIOS to suit your needs than save and exit BIOS setup.
Tips: if anything happened during the flash BIOS status (except fire
hazard, joking Ha Ha ),
do NOT power off the PC and just run the flash utility again.

4. If windows loaded successfully, the BIOS has successfully flashed and
updated.
Run msconfig and disable the antivirus softwares in the startup tab. Do
not reboot at this time.

5. Change the disply resolution to VGA mode, reboot the PC.

6. After reboot, keep the display in VGA mode and check to ascertain
antivirus is not running at the background.

7. Go to Add or remove program to remove the creative audio drivers and all
creative applications,
remove the nvidia drivers as well then reboot the PC.

8. After reboot, install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers and then reboot into BIOS,
check to ensure DMA mode are enabled for
all IDE channels (both Primary and Secondary IDE channels, master and
slave)
Disable any on-board sound/vedio if any than save and exit BIOS setup.

9. After windows loaded successfully, go to device manager to check for the
DMA mode.
Right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager/
Double click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, double click Primary IDE
Channel, click the Advanced Setting Tab
In the Device 0, the Transfer mode should be "DMA if available" and the
Current Transfer Mode should be
"Ultra DMA Mode 4" for ATA66 harddisk and "Ultra DMA Mode 5" for ATA 100
Harddisk.
Device 1 should be "not applicable" as you have not installed a slave
drive.
Check the Secondary IDE channel, the Device 0 should show "Ultra DMA
mode 2" for your NEC writer
Device 1 should be "not applicable" as no device is attached to this
channel.

10. Now, install the latest nvidia drivers, do not disturb until your are
prompted to reboot.
Adjust the display resoultion to your desire after the nvidia drivers
are successfully installed.

11. Install the latest creative SB Live! - LiveDrvUni-Pack drivers, reboot
when prompted.

12. After reboot, check to ensure your PC is now working properly.
If everything OK, run msconfig again and click "Enable All" under the
startup tab, click Apply and OK the reboot.

13. Ensure the antivirus is running at the background. Enable the XP
firewall if you don't have a 3rd party firewall installed.
Go to windows update site to update all the necessary patches.
I assume you have installed SP1, you can choose to install SP2 if all
your hardwares are comptible to SP2.
DO NOT INSTALL SP2 if your are in doublt that not all your
hardwares/softwares are comptible to SP2.

14. Right click My Computer/Properties/System Restore, click the settings
button and change the restore space to around 500MB.

15. Run disk cleanup and then run defrag to improve the bootup performance.
