Pls post back with the detail spec of your PC:
Brand and model of the mobo as well as the BIOS version
Chipsets - Intel, Via or Sis and the INF version
Brand and model of the audio card/on-board audio chips and drivers version
Brand and model of the vedio card/on-board vedio chip and driver version
Brand and model of the DVD writer/CD-rom
Brand and model of printer, scanner, digicam, etc and the drivers version.

I think you got some corrupted drivers or XP imcompatible drivers on some
hardware devices. To get those info, you may go to belarc.com to download the
free Belarc Advisor.
After installing belarc advisor, you can get the detail info by just a click.
