my bitchass dvd burner

my dvd/cd writer reads dvds and cd's but only somewhat. it plays dvds and
cd's with a sort of ticking sound. i have a sound card and maybe its some
type of confusion with it, but i dont know too much about computers so.....
if any one knows what the hell im talking about hit me up. thanx
