Trent, Googled for AIM and ICQ (acronyms are new to me). Access (or rather,
lack of) not a prob, not likely to be used. Suspect they're more popular in
US than UK. At first glance see little difference to e_mail and Messenger (a
distraction I've switched off, but daughter occasionally uses).
Security - both pc's have XP firewall enabled. AVG on both (definitions
auto-updated almost daily), and routinely do a full manual scan on host,
every week or so. Plus, Spybot and Pest Patrol running continuously. Host pc
in constant use - laptop, rarely on internet. I trust that this reasonable
level of security is sufficient. I've had zero viruses (virii?) loaded in
over 10 years (few that came were trapped by AV progs prior to infection)
and regularly delete cookies. I also have "remote access" disabled, as is
"Error Reporting", two routes I consider potential targets for hackers to
exploit.
I believe this is reasonable security efficiency.
I'm not arguing with you, in fact I agree, but $100 seems excessive to gain
slightly better security but little (if any) functional benefit.
PS - what header are you referring to, in your closing line?
Sincerely, Len
