What is the model of the HP computer? That bit of info might
be useful/
But here is a general HP instruction, which can be found at
this URL
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?dlc=en&lc=en&product=61617&lang=en&cc=us&docname=bph06273
Which says, in part:
HP Pavilion Desktop PCs - Adding a Video Card to an HP
Pavilion
Before you begin
Adding a new video card in Windows
XP
Adding a new video card in Windows
98 and Me
This document contains the required steps
to install an after-market video card into an HP Pavilion
computer. Some models include AGP slots, while others have
only PCI slots. Before purchasing a video card, open the
case and look for a brown AGP slot above the other white or
cream-colored PCI slots. If a brown AGP slot exists, it is
recommended that an AGP video card be purchased and
installed. If no AGP slot exists, purchase and install a PCI
video card and install it into the top PCI slot.
CAUTION: HP cannot be held liable for
damage resulting from improper installation of software
and/or parts, or the installation of parts and/or software
that were not supplied by HP.
Before you begin
Make sure that the new video card is not
installed in the computer. If it is, remove it and its
drivers per the video card manufacturer's suggestions.
Adding a new video card in Windows XP
Use the following steps to add a new video
card on an HP Pavilion computer that has Windows XP:
1.. Click Start and right-click My
Computer.
2.. Click the Hardware tab, and then
click the Device Manager button.
3.. Click View, and then Show Hidden
Devices.
4.. Click the Plus (+) sign next to the
Display Adapters category to expand it.
5.. Select a graphics controller under
Display Adapters and click Disable. Click OK to confirm.
6.. Continue to disable all of the
graphics controllers until all are disabled. Do not restart
the computer until all controllers are disabled.
7.. Turn the computer off.
8.. Install the new video card and
software using the instructions that came with the video
card. For help, refer to the HP Support document Taking
Apart the Computer for Upgrade or Service .
