Hi, Peter.

My EPoX mobo (8KDA3+) runs AC97 plus an old Sound Blaster Live! card. I
can't recall exactly how I installed both when the mobo was new last summer.
I think I disabled onboard sound, plugged in the SB, then installed WinXP.
It detected the SB and installed the drivers from the WinXP CD. Later, I
enabled the AC97 in the BIOS and then installed the AC'97 AUDIO Driver v3.57
from the CD that came with the mobo.

Now, in Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices, the Hardware tab lists
many devices. The Audio and Voice tabs each have boxes with drop-down menus
from which I can choose either the SB or the AC97 as default. Naturally, I
must be sure that the cables for my microphone, speakers, etc., are plugged
into the right jacks on my mobo or sound card.

Device Manager shows a dozen or so devices under Sound, video and game
controllers, including Creative SB Live! (WDM) on IRQ 17 and Realtek AC'97
Audio on IRQ 21.

I hope this helps you figure out your system.
