SP2 includes all the updates of SP1 plus newer ones. By creating a
slipstreamed installation disk that installs Windows XP SP2 from the start,
I've had very good results. (as your say, knock knock on wood) :)
After my last install, I checked Windows Update. There were only a couple of
updates, and if I remember right, they we're recommends or drivers. No
critical updates.
