I have this keyboard (plus the wireless mouse) and it works great.
First, make sure that your keyboard is in synch with the receiver. Did
you push the button on the receiver and then the set button below the
keyboard? Also, make sure that the receiver is close enough that it
gets a good signal. Sometimes other wireless devices can interfere
with the signal (like cordless phones, etc.)
