Hi, Mark.

The key to your problem is here:

Especially:
(I hit enter to skip since I wasn't sent any floppy at all)

I don't know who Cyberpower is (are?), but that is where your anger should
be directed if that's who you bought WinXP from. They should have provided
the proper drivers, either integrated onto a custom WinXP OEM CD-ROM or on a
floppy that you could use after pressing the <F6> key during Setup, as the
others have told you. Of course, I don't know whether they gave you a
"retail" WinXP CD-ROM or an OEM version that they may have customized. So,
I'm assuming a "retail" version.

To use your SATA drive as a "secondary" or "slave" drive, you could just
install drivers for SATA much like you do for a new printer, scanner, etc.
Installing the HD into another computer this way would allow you to rescue
your files, as others have suggested. But, to use the SATA drive as THE
BOOT DEVICE, the drivers for it must be integrated into WinXP by Setup
during the installation process. Once properly installed, though, as yours
obviously was originally, you should never have had to worry about it again.
(I still wonder what really caused your problem in the first place. It
might have been as simple as a loose cable or DIMM.)

At this point, you needed to figure out the real problem. But, in
(understandable) frustration, you tried to run Setup again WITHOUT the
drivers on a floppy. Chances are, this messed up the startup files so
thoroughly that the only way out now is to do the "in-place upgrade" as Jef
and Craig have suggested. Read Microsoft's instructions in this Knowledge
Base article:
How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q315341

Note especially this line in that article:
"If your computer requires a third-party mass storage device driver or HAL,
make sure that you have a copy of the files on a floppy disk before you
perform a repair or in-place upgrade." There is no provision to load these
drivers from a CD or hard drive.

I've never used Method 1 (start from inside WinXP), but I've used Method 2
(start by booting the WinXP CD-ROM) several times. Beware of Step 3; many
misread this and press R to Repair; you should press Enter at this point and
don't press R until you get to Step 5.

This will reinstall WinXP itself, including the SATA drivers from the
floppy, but will preserve your installed applications and data. As soon as
you get your firewall and antivirus back in place, visit Windows Update to
get the latest Service Pack and later fixes, because your new WinXP will be
back to the version on the CD, without those updates. Better plan on a
half-day for the whole project.
