I have done the following with NO problems.
pulled the harddrive loaded with Windows XP (illegal retail version), put
the hard drive in a NEW computer, done a repair option using an legit OEM
version of windows XP.
This worked successfully for me, so its worth giving it a shot.

huh?

older one I've been using for moderate audio work, recording, audio
editing, CD burning, etc. There are a lot of applications on the old system
with a 120 GB hard drive. Many of those programs have been upgraded over
time with online downloads. The new computer has a p4 Intel 865PERL mobo,
but only has an 80 GB HD. I'm not sure that I'd ever get the system
reconstructed from scratch on the new computer.

the effect of "Let's setup your computer..."At this point is the software
tied to the computer? Can I swap the two drves between computers? If so,
do I do a repair install? What disc do I use on the new computer with the
old drive, the OEM full or the old upgade XP disc (far beyond 120 days)?
