Error message when using add/remove hardware - help please

Im having a complete nightmare. when trying to load a new
cmedia sound card i get this message:

an error occured during the inslatation of the device. the
data is invalid

can someone please tell me what it means because no matter
what way i try to load this driver i always get the
message.
