I Have this card. Honestly, its not your sound card or
drivers with the problem. Its the AGP to CPU controller. If
you don't have the AGP version of this sound card, like me,
then Windows is using IRQ steering to provide it with a
channel to talk to your processor. If you have an upgraded
sound card, then this is being shared with the Video card.
#1 Flaw with xp. I can't even map a DMA channel to my sound
card under XP... which brings me here.. Yet lets take care
of your issue first.
If you have a AMD processor head on over to ViaArena.com.
There very first update under thier downloads section is
the 4 n 1 driver. Get that driver and install it. If it is
a PCI card and you have a integrated video device, then
disable the AGP control. It is found here:
Start > R-click my computer > manage > device manager >
System > AGP Controller.
If you have an intell system then you have to download and
install thier chipset utility. Then you can use that
utility to figure out what motherboard chipset you have and
then find the Graphics controller on thier site. Be wary,
it sounds like you have an older system. If you have a P3,
chances are you wont be able to get this a new graphics
controller at all. Don't start downloading stuf at random
from this site, just because you might have similar
products in your device manager doesn't mean that intel's
updates will work. Everything but the graphics controller
will not work on any other boards than intell ones. aka if
u have an intell processor on a HP pc, don't DL thier IDE
Controller... I did that once and had to re-install my OS.
