com 1

I have a Dell Latitude 600 laptop with Windows XP Pro
installed on it. When I tried to use com 1 with a windows
based program I got an erro msg. "com1 has been assigned
to a Dos program do want to use it windows" I clicked the
yes button, but this did not change anything. Contacted
Dell and thier support person had me make changes in the
setup seq. before Win. loaded but this did not help. So
far have checked everywhere in Win. but could not find
anything to address this. Thought about uninstalling com
1. Has any encountered this?
