I found that installing the 837272 hotfix would affect
functionality of the cd-rom via windows explorer. When
attempting to browse a CD via exploere, I would get
an "access failed" message, however, Nero burning rom
could read the session info and the drive appeared to spin
up properly. I also solved my problem by rolling back the
system, but then I worked my way back through all the
hotfixes that were installed after the successfull roll
back point and discovered that 837272 was the offending
fix. Since the automatic updater doesn't offer an easy way
to read the full details about each hotfix it is trying to
install, I didn't notice that 837272 wasn't fully tested
by SQA prior to release and was only intended to be a
conditional patch for those experiencing issues.
Hope this info helps someone else. I tore my hair out for
several days on this one.
