I have similar problems on my brothers UMAX ActionBook 340T both in 2000
& XP I cannot see the TEAC CD-224E CD-Drive. It installs but once the
drivers are loaded and it needs to access the CD for Svc Packs etc it
disappears.
I got W2000 Svc Pk 3 installed by networking it.
The machine uses a VIA chipeset and I have tried the 4in1 VIA drivers
but to no avail.
The system log reports a Ide Time Out Error on that channel.
I have turned of Ultra DMA and using PIO only.
If I look in the registry you can see the CD-ROM drive but it does not
show up under device manager. Tried to tweak some settings too but didnt
work!
I can provide more detail info if you like.
Oh and when I connected A CDROM drive from my Dell via the LPT1 port it
saw it but when it rebooted the drive disappeared, strangely it is a
TEAC CD-224E too but works fine on my Dell under 2000.
