I have an ms Optical Trackball Explorer mouse. So far it has two problems;
jumpy pointer, and even though I have the wheel button assigned to "go to
next page", anytime I reboot, the button does the scroll lock thing. I check
the mouse properties, it still has "go to next page" selected, I get out and
it works again. That's far more annoying than the jumpy mouse. But the mouse
gets real bad sometimes and jumps a 1/2 inch, that IS annoying.
Microsoft says to get the mouse to stop being jumpy, either use the "enhance
pointer precision", or turn down the speed. Both options work, but the mouse
is no longer desirable to use at those settings. For both problems they
suggested the obvious; reinstall, update, try a different port, different
rolling surface.
It obviously doesn't need a different rolling surface since it's a
trackball, so I ignored that. The other stuff I've tried already. Any help
is appreciated.
