DVDRW drive, 'no disk in drive'

My NEC 1300a DVDRW will not allow me to view files or run
any disk!. When I click on it 'no disk in drive' error
appears, this occurs no matter the media in the drive,
cd,dvd, writeables or commercial disks.
Have re-installed drivers to no effect.
Can anyone help.
