There are a number of manufactures and a couple variations of the MX 440
card. It would be helpful to have more specifics. The NVidia website seems
to indicate the 440-SE is an AGP 4X card. There is a MX 440 w/ AGP 8X also
(missing the "SE" designator). Here's the link that describes them:
http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce4mx.html. The bandwidth of the 8X is
advertised at 8.0 GB/sec, while the SE is rated at 5.3GB/sec. That would
seem to indicate a 4X AGP.

If you buy a motherboard that supports 8X (no reason not to, you may want to
upgrade the video in the future), it will also support 4X. Most will
auto-detect. Get the board you want.
