I have this problem as well, which I posted to the newsgroup also.
I don't have multiple users on my login, just one. After a random amount of
time you will not be able to enter anything in the password field.
CTRL-ALT-DEL will work, though and then I can type.
It doesn't always happen, it seems random. It only recently started
happening, because about 3 or 4 months ago before I reinstalled XP clean it
never had happened before.

Hello,I found this post in google groups. If you follow the thread, a couple of
I've got two accounts setup, mine has admin privileges, while my sons is
a limited account.
When I start XP (sp3) I have it setup so that the two names appear on the
screen with their icons.
I usually login first, and after a while, logoff/switch user - which
takes me back to the login screen,
then my son logs on with his password.
When my son is done, he usually logs off completely, (which takes it back
to the login screen again)
My session is still active, the login screen typically says there is one
program running.
Here's the weird thing. If I select my icon, the password box appears,
but I'm
unable to actually enter any data into it. I select it with the mouse
but it doesn't hep,
for some reason any input is inhibited. Neither will my sons logon accept
a password.
(The typical | character that indicates the input position does not show
up)
At that point, I've no choice but to restart the machine, and normal
operation resumes.
Anybody seen this before?
workarounds were suggested.
The definitive one is to hit ctr-alt-del twice which brings up the
alternate userid/logon screen,
from which you can now logon.

I'm suprised MS haven't fixed this. It's been there for ages.
