Have you tried installing in SAFE Mode? To start Windows in Safe
Mode, follow these steps:

1) Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list,
click Shut
down.

2) In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then
click OK.

3) When you see the message Please select the operating system to
start, press F8.

4) Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode
option, and then press ENTER.

5) If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the
installation
that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

Once you are in SAFE MODE, You can try to install your Acronis
Software.

I'm unable to install the 2009 program and after a partial install
procedure
get the following message:

Could not write value TrueImageMonitor.exe to key
\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your
support
personnel.

Can anyone explain the problem here and a possible solution?

I'm running Windows XP Prof sp3 with all updates in place.

Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

It's worth a try. I will and let you know the results.

Regards,

Even though you have Administrator rights, that error shows that
something is blocking a new startup program. This is SOP with
security software. That is why most programs tell you to turn off
your anti-virus software before you install. This includes other
security software like antispyware, etc. monitors. Because they can
block changes to your computer and assumes it is something bad that
wants to be installed. Installing under safe mode should work, because
none of this security
software shouldn't be running in safe mode. So Acronis support has
worked on this for over 2 weeks without resolution, eh? What a bunch
of amateurs! Yes you can tell them I said so.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I will do so tomorrow night
when I am home.

Let me explain a bit better.

I try out a lot of programs and I have no problem in installing them
and then later removing them.

It is only the Acronis TI that I have a problem with.

So it is strange. I know that I have all permissions but even that
doesn't help.

It has become a challenge. I am able to install v8 with no problem and
earlier I had v9 and v11 working on my computer. This only happened
when I tried to install v12 (2009) the most recent update. Now I am
unable to go back to v9 or v11 without getting this same message. I
can and have reinstalled v8.0 for the moment a nd am using it as my
backup program.
Thanks.

Regards,

I don't turn off my Avast either when I am warned to turn off all
anti-virus programs. And it has been years since the last program I
installed had a problem with the antivirus. Nonetheless, people report
they do here all of the time. So it does still happen.

One trick to get around not turning off all of the security software is to
install it under safe mode. As all startup applications are disabled. And
many viruses and malware are too. <grin>

Gateway MX6124 - Windows XP SP2

When I ran in safe mode I have the same problem.

So that doesn't work either.

I'm thinking that perhaps sp3 is causing the problem. Do you think removing
SP3 would be a viable way to do this.

I hate to spend the time to remove it and then reinstall SP3.
