Re: xp hangs when booting - during the WINXP screen - blue bar stops moving

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello,

You mention auto-restarting. This most likely means a blue screen was
generated and the system automatically restarted. Here's how to get the full
error message

Switch on your computer and keep hitting F8 until you get a menu titled
"Windows Advanced Options Menu". If you see the XP loading progress bar, you
missed it and will have to try rebooting again.

If there is only one option in that menu, hit F8 again.

In this menu select 'Disable automatic restart on system failure', Enter,
Enter and you should be able to view the full blue screen error when it
occurs again. Post back the message here and we will be able to help you
better

Note: If there is no 'disable automatic restart..' option, select 'Start
Windows Normally' and *quickly* hit the F8 key for the correct menu to come
out

Post back the message and we will be able to help you better.

The cause may be the hard disk, since you mention it hangs at the Examining
screen. But we need the error message to diagnose better.

I am trying to figure out this issue :

when booting XP, the blue bar stops moving and the computer hangs. It
does not boot in SAFEMODE, but instead reboots itself.
I have taken out all of the USB devices, unplugged everything but the
HD (testing the power supply), but it does not seem to work.

I have tried to RECOVER and even reinstall XP - but it hangs when it
is on the screen saying "Examing 23434234 MB : atapi" and the hard
drive light stays on and does not change.

The computer was working previously and just recently has had problems
with booting.

I am not sure if this is an XP or hardware problem at this point
because XP seems to boot, but it hangs.
Would the motherboard be at fault here?
Since I can't boot it properly, how could I find out if the hardware
is causing the conflict or if it is something software related?
