Re: Question re DVD software

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bloat

Just because you have more space on your hard drive does not mean you have
to stuff it full of junk. Reminds me of Madeline Albright when she started
the war in Kosovo: "Now that we have all this military hardware, let's use
it."

Please note that Wikipedia specifically refers to Nero programs as
bloatware.

Thanks, Ken

Actually, this software program is 800MB, bigger than the Win XP
Operating
System!

OK, so it's 16 cents worth of disk space?

This is ridiculous.

Sorry, but I disagree, and strongly. I think it's ridiculous to get
upset about 16 cents worth of disk space.

The new DVD burner (LG GH22LP20 dual layer with lightsscribe) cost

Why
all
this bloat in a software program??

All I want to use the DVD burner for, is to watch a rare movie DVD,
listen
to MP3 music, look at some jpg albums, burn an occasional data backup,
maybe
copy a movie DVD. That's about it.

Do I really need a 200 MB monster program to do this? I hate
bloatware.
Are
there any reasonably sized general purpose DVD reading and burning
programs?
I have no need for lightscribe and dual layer programs.

There are lots of choices of such software, and you certainly don't
have to use that one.

But let me tell you that what you call "bloatware," the "200 MB
monster program," uses what is a *tiny* amount of disk space these
days.

To pick a typical, not-too-large drive, these days a 250GB drive costs
around $50 US. That means that 200MB is about 4 cents worth of disk
space. That's hardly something to get upset about.
