The date and time was Tuesday, June 23, 2009 8:36:01 AM, and on a whim, visuals4u pounded out on the keyboard:
Thanks everyone! I have downloaded Paragon and I'm preparing to do this myself. I am reasonably "techie," but don't understand how I can backup to a drive that is already failing. Fortunately, I have an extra removable drive for all of my client files and important information.
After starting the program, it is asking if I want to backup the disk or restore the disk. If restoring solves the problem, I could have started this process as I have done many times before. Nass, is there a particular reason why I should proceed with backing up my information rather than doing a system restore?
You don't back up to a failing drive, as once the drive fails, even your backup is gone.
Make sure you have the backup program VERIFY the backup after. I've seen too many complaints of those who did a backup and then tried to restore and the backup was corrupt.
Also make sure you are able to boot the computer with the backup program CD (if available, look in the program options to create one) in case you current drive dies before you get a chance to replace it.
You don't want to restore to your current drive. And System Restore isn't what you want either, as SR doesn't back up everything on your system.
